Dior Star Foundation – Review

Hi everyone! I know I said in my Beauty and Blogging Resolutions post that I would be doing reviews on Wednesdays, but I couldn’t wait with this one! I’ll also be doing a new makeup look tomorrow using this foundation so I wanted to review it first.

Last week, I headed to House of Fraser, all set to purchase another bottle of my favourite Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation, however, the Dior counter just looked so alluring and I decided it was time for something new. I’ve been wanting to try the Dior Star foundation ever since I first saw the beautiful advert, featuring the gorgeous Natalie Portman.

Dior Star claims to be the fashion house’s first brightening foundation, and promises to give you an even, luminous complexion. It also should help the appearance of dark spots and redness.

Initial Thoughts:

I absolutely love the packaging. Of course, it is Dior so I wouldn’t expect anything less. It’s sturdy without being too heavy, and the bottle looks very classic and elegant.

While I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, it’s no good if the product inside isn’t up to scratch. So here’s what I thought after application with some photos to give you a better idea…

Before Application:

After Application:

Here I am wearing shade 022 Cameo on top of my NARS Pro Prime Pore Refining Primer and I used my Body Shop foundation brush to apply it.

Well my first thoughts were how incredibly light it felt on my skin. It’s just the most beautiful texture – not too thick or creamy, but still moisturising. It actually feels very similar to my Chanel foundation and they both have in common that I honestly forget I’m wearing any makeup at all.

Looking at it in the mirror (I don’t know how much the photos do it justice!), it really does make my skin look very luminous, but not at all unnatural. It provides enough coverage to conceal some of the redness on my cheeks and around my nose, but still retains a beautiful glow. I tend to lean towards dewy foundations as I find very matte makeup can make you look a little flat. I don’t want to cover my skin, but just enhance it and this is perfect for that.

It’s long lasting and even after about 5 hours of wearing, I still have a lovely radiance to my skin.

Final Thoughts:

I really, really love this foundation!

I do think it will probably be more suited to girls with normal to oily skin though, rather than dry and it is also light to medium coverage. I prefer to use a lightweight foundation as my base, then use a full coverage foundation such as Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation to conceal any blemishes. If, however, you want a foundation which is going to give you more coverage, then I would recommend the Diorskin Nude Foundation instead.

Overall, I am so glad that I decided to purchase this and give it a go. It’s beautiful and feels like silk on the skin. I definitely recommend this!

Score: 9/10

  1. I tried Dior star and fell in love with the iluminating look on my dry combination skin. I found a shade that matches my skin exactly and it gave me a more refined look without looking over made. Zoe, zoebeautyblog.com

  2. Great review, I liked it so much 🙂 I have been using the Double Wear for about a month with just a sample, and now that it’s almost run out I would really like to try the Dior Skinstar. For the Estee Lauder one I tried the shade 2N1, do have I to choose the shade 10 ivory or 22 cameo of the Dior one? I am so doubtful, I can’t make up my mind D: Do you think that the 10 it’s too fair? I mean, I am fair, but not that much XD Thank you very much and keep it up

    1. Thanks for reading! If it helps I use the shade Cameo for Dior star and the shade Ecru for Estée Lauder double wear (not sure what number that is!) I would always recommend going and trying it out at a counter though if you’re unsure 🙂 xxx
