Happy Valentine’s everyone! Now, I know many people can’t stand this particular holiday. They think it’s just a corporate, money-making made up day, designed to make singletons feel bad about themselves, however, I must admit, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for it. If you’re in a relationship, it’s an excuse to go out for a nice meal and pop a bottle of champers. If you’re single, then grab some friends and go out on the town or host an anti-valentine’s sleepover. Either way, it’s just another reason to have some fun! (Unless like me, you’ll be spending it ill in bed with a stomach bug. Yay!)
Of course, when I think of Valentine’s, the two colours that always come to mind are red and pink, and I always like to reflect this in my outfit and makeup. So today, I’m going to share with you my favourite beauty items in these shades.
Cheeks and Highlighter
Nothing says love like a rosy, glowing complexion. My favourite blush right now is the Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush in Rose. It’s a very warm pink/mauve colour which gives such a natural flush when smoothed into the apples of cheeks. For a more dramatic red, I like to use the Benetint Lip and Cheek Tint. At first, I wasn’t too keen on this product as I found it was difficult to blend, but now I’ve learned that a little goes a long way. Finally, my favourite highlighter is also from Benefit, the famous High Beam. I just love the stunning, pale pink shimmer which catches the light so beautifully. I apply it to my cheekbones, my cupid’s bow and underneath my brows to give my face instant luminosity.
First up has to be the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow Cream in Pink Gold. If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll have seen this mentioned a couple of times in my January Favourites and my 5 Minute Face: Pink and Dewy posts. I just love the colour and consistency of this cream and the shimmer will look lovely for a casual Valentine’s date. Next, I’ve also included the Bare Minerals Velvet Eyecolor in Velvet Violet. Now, I know this isn’t pink or red, but I think this shadow works perfectly with the Maybelline Colour Tattoo. It gives a very dreamy, ethereal look.
What Valentine’s look would be complete without a beautiful pink or red lipstick? For a casual, pretty tone, I love my Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Magnolia. Coral is a very versatile shade which looks good on anyone. If you want something with a bit more va va voom, a red lip is always a winner, and for me you can’t beat the MAC Ruby Woo. It’s very matte and the blue-toned shade will make teeth look even whiter! Finally, if you want something quite daring (maybe for a night out with the girls?) try a bright, fuschia pink like this Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Spring Collection Lipstick in 20.
Nails and Scent
My favourite red nail polish at the moment, is still my Seventeen Gel Colour in Maraschino Cherry (featured in my Top 5 December Nail Polishes). This is largely due to the incredible price of only £1.99 from Boots, but also because of the bright, vibrant colour, the gel quality which gives it a nice shine without any need for a top-coat and the fact that it lasts longer than many of the more expensive polishes I’ve tried! When it comes to perfume, Miss Dior Eau de Toilette has been my signature scent for a couple of years now. I love the fresh floral and citrus notes, combined with a hint of musk and patchouli for an element of sophistication. It’s also in such a pretty bottle!
So, there we have it! Some of my favourite romantic-themed beauty products. Do you have any favourites to share? And what are your plans this evening?
Again, I hope you all have a fabulous day, whatever you’re doing! Be sure to check in tomorrow, when I’ve got a post on my favourite concealer/highlighters on the market right now… Thanks for reading.
