So this is a first!! Up until now, I’ve always been very decisive when it comes to makeup. It’s either; “yep, I LOVE it!” or “it’s a no from me”, soon after ending up in the bin. Recently though, I took it upon myself to do a little clear out of my makeup drawer (a task which was long overdue!). After brutally throwing away anything which I hadn’t used in the last few months, only two products were saved from the cull.
The first was a small bottle of Clinique Even Better Makeup and the second was a full-sized pot of Bare Minerals Warmth. I have no idea why I chose to give these previously hated products a second chance, but let me tell you, I am SO glad I did!
Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF15
When I first tried out this foundation a year ago, we did not get along at all. It just seemed far too creamy for my combination/oily skin and my t-zone would be shiny after only a couple of hours. In the last year though, I’ve seen a big change in my skin. Whether it’s just improving with age or the skincare regime I’ve been following, it’s finally making it’s way to the Normal side of things, *see there is hope everyone!* Now, this foundation is perfect for me; just creamy and moisturising enough to provide a beautiful glow, but still mattifying. The shade I’ve been using is Cream Chamois and it’s also ideal for my skin. More of a yellow tone than I would usually go for, but it actually just gives me the appearance of a slight tan.
I’ve been wearing this all week and had a few compliments already! Plus, the fact it is oil-free, SPF15 and contains treatment benefits for combatting dark spots and acne marks, makes it a real winner. I will 100% be repurchasing a full size bottle!
Bare Minerals Warmth All-Over Face Color
I got this as part of a Bare Minerals Starter Kit, and while I loved the foundation and mineral veil powder, I was not a fan of this bronzer. I found it to be extremely difficult to blend and a little too orange. After a few failed attempts, I gave up completely.
After trying it out again though, I’ve realised that it was my technique which was all wrong, not the bronzer. The two things you need for success with this are a fluffy brush and a very, very light hand. The bronzer brush which came with my Starter Kit was quite scratchy and thin which didn’t help; the Real Techniques Blusher Brush on the other hand is ideal! I take a tiny bit of bronzer, tap off the excess on the back of my hand, and then lightly sweep it under my cheekbones, down my nose and around my forehead. This is definitely a bronzer which I would use for an all-over warmth rather than contouring though.
Below I am wearing both products together. I think they provide a really lovely, natural glow.
Well I’ve definitely learned a lesson! Don’t judge products too quickly and definitely don’t throw them away too fast as you never know when they might come in useful!.
Have you tried the Clinique Even Better or the Bare Minerals Warmth? What did you think of them? And have you ever done a “beauty u-turn”?
