Bare Minerals Velvet Eyecolors – The Perfect Shades for Summer

Bare Minerals Velvet Eyecolor

Autumn and winter is all about the nudes and smokey eyes… Spring and summer on the other hand? It’s time to get a bit more playful and inject some colour into your makeup. The range of Velvet Eyecolor shadows by Bare Minerals offers every shade you could want, from brights to pastels, all with a gorgeous, creamy formula.

I’ve actually had this particular set since Christmas but it’s in the last month that I’ve really been reaching for it on a daily basis. I’ve featured them in loads of The Looks, but I thought they finally deserved their own dedicated post!

First things first, the packaging is so unbelievably pretty and perfect for spring. I love anything pastel coloured right now! Although the shadows come in little pots which if I’m honest, are somewhat a case of appearance over practicality. Because the product is loose powder, rather than pressed, it does make it a little fiddly to use and you have to be careful not to spill or waste any. But I can forgive this due to the lovely formula. It’s incredibly smooth and soft, almost like cashmere, and easy to blend out or smudge under eyes.

Let’s move on to the best part…the colours 🙂

Six shades came with my collection: Vanilla, Pecan, Violet, Strawberry, Blueberry and Pistachio.

Before getting these, I’m not going to lie, I would never have dreamed of wearing any bright lilac or green colours anywhere near my eyes! I mean, we’re not in year 10 anymore right? But I must admit, because these are actually very subtle and you can build them up to the level you want, they look really nice! They’re fun for when I just want something a bit different and am feeling brave. Plus, they’re great for whipping out when I’ve got some sort of themed party to go to.

Vanilla: This cream colour is perfect for using as a base for other shadows. It’s nice to use under brows too for highlighting.

Pecan: My second favourite of the palette. This orange toned brown will look fab with brown eyes. Check it out in my May Makeup Menu

Violet: The most daring of the shades… See it in action in my 2 Simple Spring Makeup Looks.

Strawberry: A really lovely berry tone which is actually a lot more wearable than it looks. Need proof? Check out my Winter Berry Beauty feature.

Blueberry: My favourite shade without a doubt! I absolutely love this deep navy colour. Use it in the crease for definition as I did in my Cinderella Inspired Look, or smudged along the lash line for a twist on a smokey eye.

Pistachio: Another daring shade, but I like to use a hint of this to bring out the blue in my eyes. Featured again in my 2 Simple Spring Makeup Lookor my Midsummer Night’s Dream Inspired Look.

So what do you guys think of these shades? Would you be brave enough to wear them? And what are your thoughts on Bare Minerals makeup in general?

  2. I really like that orange and green. I’m BIG into orange right now blending out with neutrals. And greens, are always my favorite being a brunette. That’s a beautiful green. I could see that and my UD Stash green coming together for a perfect marriage.
