MAC 217 Brush: Worth the Hype?

MAC 217

MAC 217

Morning everyone! I’m guessing a lot of you are feeling more than a little worse for wear this morning after Halloween last night, so we’ll keep this one short and sweet.

Today, I’ll be discussing what has to be one of the most commonly used makeup utensils in the beauty world. Pretty much every blogger I follow seems to own the MAC 217 Blending Brush and completely rave about its incredible versatility. It’s supposed to be amazing for everything, from applying a base shadow and working a matte colour into the crease to general shading/blending purposes. But at £20 for one singular brush, I was always a little apprehensive. I mean, surely it can’t be that good right??

Well, I was wrong…. This brush is genuinely worth every single penny.

Firstly, the whole appearance and feel of this brush is superb. The long black handle makes it really easy to use and the white bristles are beautifully soft and smooth. Most importantly though, it really does make a massive difference to your eye makeup. Everything goes on so much easier and I can complete a whole look without picking up another brush at all! I mainly use it for applying shadow into my non-existent hooded eye crease, and this makes it so much easier! (Check out my 9 Tips for Hooded Eyes for more info.) Up until now, I’ve been using the much cheaper Real Techniques Shading Brush, but this really blows it out of the water.

Overall, this brush is 100% worth all the hype and I can’t see myself ever being without it now! It’s honestly worth the investment, especially if you have hooded eyes like myself and struggle to create decent eye makeup.

So what do you guys think? Would you pay £20 for a brush? And have you ever tried the MAC 217 before? Let me know in the comments!

    1. It’s the only high end one I have so think it’s a good one to start with! I really want to try some Zoeva brushes. Considering buying a set as all my RT ones are getting a bit old and sparse. Are they worth trying do you think? Xx

      1. I would highly recommend the ZOEVA brushes. I’ve bought a few individually as I wanted to try them first before investing in a set. I’ve been really impressed, the quality is great considering their affordable price tag 🙂 xx

    1. That is definitely true! And you can get some great brushes for cheaper – I love a few of the Real Techniques brushes, they’re amazing! For me though this brush has really helped my eye makeup techniques as I don’t have a very steady hand and often struggle with creating a good look. It definitely depends though! xxx

  1. Oh I have been lusting after this but I found it so expensive for a brush. I resorted to buying the zoeva eye brush set instead, which is also amazing, Crazy how much difference a decent brush makes to doing your makeup.

    1. It really is! My makeup has improved drastically since investing in better brushes. I really want to try a Zoeva set. I’m considering investing in one of their luxe sets for Christmas as all my Real Techniques ones are starting to get a bit old. Which set do you have? xxx

      1. I went for the complete eye set, as I already own several Zoeva face brushes. Their sets are great value though and the new bamboo brushes also look very nice. xx
