In my view, the only way to get over the emotional slump that comes with Christmas being over for another year, is to plan a cracking New Year’s Eve…
Whether I’m going to a party, out for dinner, or just having a night in with my favourite girls, I always like to pull out all the stops when it comes to my makeup. I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to go for this year (smoky eye vs bold lip, such decisions!) but these are some of my essential beauty items which are likely to make an appearance.
St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan in Medium/Dark: I’ve always been a bit wary of gradual tan. It usually looks great to begin with, then after a few days I suddenly wake up resembling an oompa loompa. This is one of the few I’ve tried which genuinely gives a naturally bronzed effect, doesn’t have that unpleasant “fake tan” smell, and is easily buildable to the level you want. I’ll be using this in the run up to New Year’s!
Charles Worthington Body Booster Mousse: Voluminous hair is a must on NYE. Unfortunately, my hair right now is looking exceptionally flat (desperately need a trip to the hairdressers asap). This mousse helps to give my locks some oomph and a bit of bounce.
Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: There’s nothing worse than spending ages on your makeup for it to sweat off before the clock even strikes midnight. This setting spray really does make a difference to the longevity of my makeup and it adds a touch of dewiness to my matte foundation. Keep your eyes peeled for a review coming soon!
Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadow in Crystal (review): I love these cream eyeshadow formulas from Max Factor and if you can’t go OTT on the glitter at New Year’s, when can you hey?. I use this one in the centre of my eyelid for extra sparkle and glam.
MAC Cherry and Ruby Woo (review): I obviously had to feature this combination in my New Year’s roundup. There’s nothing more festive than a red lipstick, and I think Ruby Woo has to be the Queen of red lipsticks. The perfect blue-toned red is so gorgeous, and the matte formula seriously will not budge. For added definition and longevity (as I’m sure I’ll be drinking a lot of champagne on the night), I use MAC Lip Liner in Cherry to stop my lipstick bleeding.
Fleur de Force “Fleur Loves” False Lashes: These three quarter lashes from Eylure really make eyes pop and I find they look more natural than the full variation. I tested these on a night out on Saturday and they didn’t end up dangling from my eye like a horrible spider, so it’s a thumbs up from me!
Rimmel Love Glitter Nail Polish in Queen of Bling: I’m all about the glitter on NYE and this gold polish from Rimmel looks perfect as a top coat over any shade (I like it over red nails). Just one warning, it’s a bit of a pain to remove but at least that means it doesn’t chip easily!
What are your New Year’s Eve beauty essentials? And have you tried any of mine? Let me know in the comments 🙂
