If you managed to catch my Christmas Makeup Menu, you might have noticed that I’ve made a new lip purchase. It comes from NARS – one of my favourite beauty brands, although I don’t own many of their products because of the fairly hefty price tags! However, the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are so universally raved about that I just had to give them a go. I’d also used up my Topshop Rio Rio lipstick (yes, I actually managed to use up an entire lipstick *pats self on back*), and so was on the lookout for a new orange-toned red to add to my collection.
These Velvet Matte Lip Pencils come in the form of a chunky crayon, which I’m not going to lie, can look a bit daunting! I’ve always stuck to lipsticks in the past, however, I have to say I’ve been completely converted. The crayon tips make it so much easier to apply, especially if like me, you have quite full lips. I find I have a lot more control with it, meaning I can really get right into those corners and tricky bits. The formula is also surprisingly creamy and it slides on super easily.
The longevity of this pencil is seriously just amazing. Once it’s on, it will. not. budge. Food? No problem. Cocktails? Come at me. Nothing is getting this bad boy off. I love how matte it looks, but it isn’t drying at all, although I would recommend giving your lips a bit of a scrub and nourish first so it doesn’t cling to any dry patches.
I went for Red Square; an absolutely beautiful bright red, which I find is such a flattering shade for all colourings. It’s quite a fun summery colour, but I love wearing this kind of shade in winter with an all-black outfit, making my lips the centre of attention. The shades Cruella (a classic red) and Damned (a vampish berry tone) also look really beautiful.
This is such a brilliant lip product. I seriously recommend splashing out on this as it really is worth the money, and I can tell it will last for ages! My only negative would be that the black packaging attracts quite a lot of dirt in my makeup bag, making it look easily quite grubby, but I find this to be a problem with all NARS products really… Apart from that though, I really think this is up there with the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution range for my favourite lip formula ever.
Have you guys tried the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils? What did you think of them? And what’s your favourite lipstick formula?
Check back in on Thursday for a new beauty review 🙂
