When Urban Decay announced the release of their Makeup Setting Sprays, to be honest I didn’t have particularly high hopes. I thought it would be one of those gimmicky products which never actually lives up to the claims it makes. My only previous experience with a makeup spray was The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist, and I just found this left my skin looking wet and greasy… Not really the look I was going for!
However, there has been a lot of hype over the last couple of months around these UD sprays, and in the interest of blogging of course, I decided I needed to give one a try. For research purposes, you know how it is… Read on for my verdict 🙂
These setting sprays claim to increase the longevity of your makeup, almost acting like a primer but as the final step in your routine rather than the first. They come in 3 different versions: Chill (to cool and hydrate dry skin types), De-Slick (to mattify oily skin), and All Nighter (for those with generally normal skin who just want their makeup to last a bit longer). I went for All Nighter as my skin can be a combination of dry and oily, and my main concern is the fact that my makeup always seems to have rubbed off by mid-afternoon, leaving in its place a very unattractive shiny forehead and nose.
Let’s start with the packaging shall we? I really like that this is quite a sturdy bottle but at the same time isn’t too heavy, meaning you can stick it in your handbag if needs be. It is quite large but there are travel sizes available if that’s what you’d prefer. In terms of how I use it, I mostly spritz about 3 sprays-worth over my face (from about 30cm away) once my makeup is done. If I know I’m going to be out all night and in a hot sweaty club or something, I sometimes apply it in between steps as well (e.g. after applying my base, then after powder, and finally just before I head out the door).
So does it work? I would say yes! I find this definitely seems to stop my makeup from being eaten up as quickly as usual, and it’s a great alternative to a primer. Another thing I like is that it gives a little fresh boost of moisture to my skin, making my makeup look a little less matte and a touch more natural if you see what I mean. Plus, it feels very refreshing! If you have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t worry too much. I break out easily if my skin doesn’t like a product and I haven’t found any issues with it so far.
This has become one of those ‘I never knew I needed it but now I can’t imagine my makeup collection without it‘ products. I seem to have a lot of those…
Have any of you tried the Urban Decay Makeup Setting Sprays? What did you think?
See you guys on Monday for another post 🙂
