Drugstore Valentine’s Smoky Eye

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I decided to throw my hat into the ring (is that the phrase??) and give you my take on an occasion makeup look. Now, I don’t know about you, but when I first think of Valentine’s Day, what automatically comes to mind is a seductive red lip, but thinking about it, a bold lip probably isn’t the most practical if you’re planning on kissing that special someone!

So instead I’ve gone for something fresh, feminine, and fairly understated in the form of a subtle smoky eye with hints of pink shimmer. I think this would be so pretty for a day or evening date, and for bonus points, all the products I used are under £5 from the drugstore! More money to spend on prosecco at dinner hey?

This look could not be more simple and I think it’ll be perfect for a romantic occasion…

For this look I used my Makeup Revolution Iconic 1 Palette which is a fab dupe of the Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette (but for a tenth of the price). There’s a lovely range of shades including some beautiful shimmers. I used the pale pinky shimmer shade (second from the left) all over my lid and in the inner corners of my eye. This is such a pretty colour and really reflects the light. I then applied the dark charcoal shade (5th from the right) at the outer corner of my eyelid and in my crease, smoking it out with my MAC 217 brush. I also smudged this a little under my bottom lash line for extra smokiness.

To add some texture and an extra burst of colour, I then dabbed the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Cream in Pink Gold into the centre of my eyelid. This is such a gorgeous drugstore product – if you haven’t tried them already, you must! Finally, I finished the look off with some Maybelline Great Lash Mascara which is lovely for long, fluttery lashes.

I can’t wait to wear this look out. I paired it with my L’Oreal Collection Exclusive Lipstick in Julianne’s Nude and I just think it’s so fresh and dreamy! Let me know what you think in the comments!

What will you guys be doing on Valentine’s Day? Have you planned your makeup look yet?

  1. What a beautiful look Jo! I have the same Colour Tattoo except over here the colour is called Inked In Pink. The colour is gorgeous but I have found the product to be a bit underwhelming. I don’t know whether I got a bad one but mine doesn’t feel very creamy 😦 x

    1. Thank you! Oh that’s a shame. I do find they’re better for just applying a bit of extra colour and shimmer over eyeshadow a rather than as a stand-alone product. And my pink one seems creamier than another colour I have so maybe it’s easy to get a dud one! Thanks for reading lovely 🙂 xxx
