Review: theBalm | Mary Lou Manizer

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while; it’s been a very long and stressful couple of weeks. I’ve been busy with anΒ assignment for my professional marketing qualification, alongside full time work and trying to have some sort of a social life… I always hate missing a blog post and I try my best to keep to a schedule, but sometimes you’ve just got to give something up or you’ll go crazy! Anyway, my assignment has now been handed in so I should be back up and running as normal from now on πŸ™‚

Today I want to chat about a new favourite beauty product (and I don’t say that lightly). I’ve tried so many different products in my time that it takes quite a lot for me to go “wow” but I really think this has achieved it…. I’m talking about theBalm’s Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter.Β IΒ know, I know – this is such a hyped product and I’m sure you’ve heard about it before! But hopefully you won’t mind me adding my thoughts into the mix.

I personally think of highlighters as the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae. Are they 100% necessary? No. Do they somehow just complete a look and give an added dose of gorgeous-ness? Yes. When I’m going for a natural, dewy look I’m more likely to reach for a sheeny cream-based highlighter like Benefit High Beam or YSL Touche Eclat, but sometimes you just want your makeup to say, “I’M HERE!!”, you know what I mean? And that’s where this comes in…

Mary Lou Manizer is a shimmery golden toned highlighter which can be used on cheekbones, eyelids or brow bones for a serious amount of glow. I can honestly say that this is without a doubt the best highlighter I have ever used. Yep, I said it!Β It’s just such a universally beautiful colour that would suit any skin tone and gives the most amazingly healthy glow effect. It does pack a punch – which I love – but just be aware of that when you’re applying it. My bathroom doesn’t have the best lighting and when I first used it, I went way overboard and ended up looking a bit like a discoball. But just a light swish of this down my cheekbones and on my brow bones is enough to wake up my face and make me feel amazing.

While this is quite intense, it’s not glittery at all and doesn’tΒ give any sort of fake effect. I also personally really like the packaging, although I know some people are put off by it. I think it’s quite cute and fun though and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to break in my handbag.

Overall I cannot rave about this product enough. I’ve been reaching for it everyday since I bought it and I think it’s become a bit of a holy grail! I did take some photos of me wearing it but my camera miraculously deleted them (don’t you hate when that happens??), but I’ll pop something up on my Instagram soon.

Hope you guys enjoyed the review. I’d love to know what you think of this highlighter?

Check back in on Thursday for a new travel post πŸ™‚ I’ve also got a couple of really exciting things in the pipeline over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading! Joanna xxxxx

    1. I know what you mean! Yes I think this should work well on darker skin tones as it’s more of a golden shade. From what I’ve read it seems to be quite a universal shade so it’s worth giving a go πŸ™‚ Maybe see if you can swatch it in store first though xxx

  1. This sounds like such a good product! I will have to keep my eye out for it in the shops! Also I know what you mean about having to give something up for a short while, I did the same last week and didn’t post anything until today! Life just takes over sometimes πŸ™‚ xx
