Everyone seems to be going crazy for NYX Cosmetics right now… To be honest, I’d never really heard of it before they started stocking it in Boots and every blogger under the sun started raving about this budget beauty brand. Well, never one to give into the hype *pah!*, I obviously had to get involved and see what all the fuss was about! I popped into a store in Barcelona for a nosey round, and here’s what made it into my basket…
Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan: This is the product which seems to have most people talking. Meant to be a great cheaper alternative to the Kat Von D or ABH Cosmetics liquid lipsticks, these apply like a lip cream, but set down like a matte lipstick. All the appearance of my favourite mattes without the trickiness of applying? Ideal! On first impressions, I’m really a fan of this and would definitely like to invest in some more colours. They smell delicious, like vanilla cupcakes, and dry down very quickly. The formula goes on really smoothly, seems to be pretty long lasting, and the doe-foot applicator is so much easier to work with than a lipstick tube. Milan is a bright pink colour (which to be honest looks more mauve-y in the bottle). Originally, I wanted to buy the browny nude Stockholm, so I’ll be looking out for that next.
High Definition Blush in Amber: Some of the blushes looked really pretty and I actually quite like the simple packaging (ideal for travelling). I wanted quite a natural shade for when I’m going full-on with my eye makeup and Amber seemed to fit the bill. This is seriously such a lovely formula and if it was in a NARS packaging, I would totally believe it’s high-end. Another winner!
Waterproof Extreme Shine Eyeliner in Sunrise Blue: I’m having a thing with blue eye makeup at the moment (my 14 year-old self would be so proud), and this immediately caught my eye. Again, this is truly a winning formula and just glides onto skin smoothly – no pressure needed! The colour is stunning and absolutely perfect for summer. I think this will look fab on blondes, either as a pop of colour under the eye line or swept into a slightly smudged out wing. Expect a neon themed makeup look coming soon on my channel!
Nail Lacquer in Paradise Martini: Carrying on with the neon theme, I wanted a super bright, fun nail polish shade for holiday, and this one immediately caught my eye on the shelf. So far, I’m loving the colour (a bright hot pink which will look great with a tan, if I ever actually get one…), and I really like the brush on it. It’s a little thinner than normal which actually seems to give me more control and keep everything smudge-free!
Overall, I can’t tell you how impressed I am with these 4 products. In total, I think I spent about €24 (around £20, less than the price of one NARS blush) and I’m completely sold on the quality. It definitely shows how much budget brands like NYX and Kiko are catching up with their high-end counterparts. Now I just need to get my hands on the Stockholm Lip Cream…
Have you guys tried anything by NYX? What did you think? And do you have any recommendations for the brand?
