Jardin du Luxembourg… One of my favourite places to just go for a proper chill. Sometimes working in a vibrant, bustling city like Paris can really take its toll, and when it’s all getting a bit too much, I like to take a book somewhere for a peaceful read and relaxation in the sun.
Of all Paris’s parks, Jardin du Luxembourg has to be my favourite. It’s a little quieter than the Tuileries, and in my eyes, a lot more beautiful. Originally a palace and gardens for Marie de Medici in the 1600s, it has since become a popular romantic location (the scene where Marius and Cosette meet in Les Mis takes place here!).
Stroll through the trees and sip a beer at one of the cafes, read a book or paint in one of the chairs placed by a fountain, or just watch people race their little electric boats on the famous pond at the centre. You’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a peaceful oasis in the middle of Paris!
I’ll definitely miss this place when I move back to the UK in a few weeks… Somehow I don’t think Peterborough’s local park will have quite the same effect!
