When NARS announced the release of their new Velvet Lip Glides, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, what is a ‘Lip Glide’ anyway? In the bottle, they kind of look like a classic gloss, but they were advertised as a bit of a liquid lipstick at the same time.
Well, I was intrigued. I decided to purchase the shade ‘Playpen’, a peachy pink nude, so I could find out exactly what the deal was with this lip hybrid.
The formula of this is really interesting and kind of hard to describe! The thick consistency genuinely is like a liquid lipstick, but with a less matte formula. What I love about it is that it doesn’t feel at all drying when you apply them, like a lot of similar products I’ve tried. It also doesn’t go patchy (Kat Von D, I’m looking at you) but still gives a good punch of pigmentation.
Of course, the staying power isn’t particularly impressive. It probably lasts a few hours before it starts to fade or slip off. To be honest though, I’m not too fussed as it’s so easy to just swipe another layer on later in the day. Unlike the Kat VonD Liquid Lipsticks, it doesn’t start to flake and build up in patches when you layer it up.
In terms of packaging, I’m a real fan of the doe foot applicator as it just makes the product so easy to apply. You can really get to every corner! And the whole bottle, with the thicker lid and glass bottom, just feels very sleek and high end.
The colour ‘Playpen’ itself is seriously beautiful and right up my alley. In fact, it’s like a slightly more coral version of my all time favourite Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect.
Another perfect nude to my collection!
In the end, I loved this little lip glide thingy so much I went out and bought another shade; La Main Bleu; a gorgeous fuchsia pink. And I have the feeling it won’t be my last either…
Have any of you guys tried the NARS Velvet Lip Glides? What did you think of them?
